Review No. 3; Slide by Michelle Congdon

 First thing's first, I signed up to be a part of the promotional tour of this book as a reviewer and received a free copy of the book for review. Well, let's get on with it.

Short Description:
 Evangeline is a girl haunted by her past, Ryan is a man who seems perfect in every way but hides a deep, dark secret behind his cheerful facade. These unfortunate souls meet and it's fate. Evangeline wants to become invisible but Ryan basks in the spotlight. They are two very different souls, the complete opposite of the other. Will their differences make them fuse together like the puzzle pieces that fit each other or will they tear them apart forever?

 The Setting:

 I've never been to New York City but the descriptions in this amazing book had me believing I was actually in the heart of this bustling city. I enjoyed the feeling of being in this completely foreign but familiar world.

 The Story: 

  The plot was well developed, sometime it was predictable but other times it blew my mind away. It was a really short book, only 250 pages, and as such I flew through it in two days. I would say it was a light, funny, quick read but I'd be lying. It was certainly quick but there was nothing light or funny about it, this book deals with serious issues and has some really dark parts. I found myself struggling to finish the last 150 pages of it. It annoyed me so badly at a certain point that I really wanted to be doing anything but reading this book at that time. However, the ending was worth the fight to finish the novel. It was satisfying to say the least. I should warn you that this is a book for 18+ and contains some mature scenes (sex scenes), so if you're not comfortable with that kind of thing I wouldn't recommend it. 

The Main Characters:

 Evangeline- A first she was really relatable and I enjoyed being inside her head but then she started doing a bunch of things I didn't approve of and I became irritated with her. She's one of those characters you love and hate at the same time.

 Ryan- He's a sweetheart. I felt as if I was inside his head instead of Evangeline most of the time. That's really strange because this is from her point of view. Anyway, I loved him from the moment I met him and continued to adore him until the very end. He was wonderfully written.

Conclusion:

 I enjoyed the first approximately 100 pages, the story was 5/5 stars at that point and then the rest happened. The rating went downhill from there. Taking into account the setting, the story and the characters, I've decided that this one gets 3 out of 5 stars. Not one of my favorite and I'm probably never going to read it again but it still had some good points.

The Running Game by L.E. Fitzpatrick

Well, this is the first adult novel I've ever read and it was quite an experience. Before I begin the review I'd just like to say that I received a free copy of 'The Running Game' for review from the ARR (authors requesting reviews) program on the Making Connections group on Goodreads.

 Okay, on with the review!
 Short Description- Rachel is in danger, she runs. She meets two brothers with secrets and a dark past. She's not sure if she can trust them but they may be her only ticket to survival.

 This isn't one of my all time favorite book but it is an enjoyable, quick read.

 The World- this novel is set in a Dystopian England and I'll tell you a secret......you would never ever want to live in a world like this. In fact, I don't think you'd want to touch it with a 10 foot pole! It's riddled with disease and war and corrupt people, yeah I think you get the idea. It's absolutely disgusting but well built.

 The Story- the tale is told through multiple perspectives and as such we are left trying to fit the pieces together like a puzzle, some of them fit naturally but others we have to wait until the end and then they fall into place. This was refreshing because the writing style was simple and so easy to follow that it felt like I was watching a movie instead of reading a book. I don't think there was too much description but that suited the fast pace of the book. The plot was well thought out and the characters......well, let's leave that to the next section. Oh, and that cliffhanger of an ending was just awesome.

 The Characters- They are all well developed and we get to see through all of their eyes but I have some issues with them. They all annoyed me at some point during the story, except John (one of the brothers). I love John, everyone else not so much. They were all making bad decisions, all of which shaped the story but did nothing for my nerves. Secrets and lies, let's just say there was no shortage of that. The entire story is themed around betrayal but there was also loyalty (not a lot but enough to hope for a happy ending).
 You should also know that the villains' names are really ironic. You'll probably laugh your socks off the first time you see them! Bewarned , however, that though their names are hilarious their viciousness is no laughing matter.

 Taking all of this into account I gave it 3 out of 5 stars. Not in my most favorite of favorites but not terrible either. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I Decide What I Become: A Book for Teenagers and Young Adults by Dexter Roger Emrit

Review

When I first saw this book at the library I picked it up because of the title. I was having problems deciding what to do with my life and this book called to me. After I'd read about 100 pages in I realized that this book is from a Trinidadian author, if I had known this before I'd read it I probably wouldn't have given it a second glance. I've had a conviction in my head that most West Indian books are difficult to understand because of the excess use of 'slang', and I'm from the Caribbean! Not this book! It's easy to read, understandable and most of all helpful.
I'd been stumbling around aimlessly before I found this God-send. It showed me a variety of things from the importance of family (this section nearly made me cry!) to the qualities of a great leader. It saved me from a lifetime of mere existence and gave me the courage to do what I've always wanted to do; become a writer.
This book is definitely worth the price, in fact, I think it is invaluable. It will change your life!
The only words that are necessary now are: Thank you Uncle Dex for taking the time and effort to write this masterpiece. Everyone should read it at least once in their lifetime.
